Ken Calegari is the founder and President of Calegari Law Corporation, a San Diego law firm providing comprehensive legal representation in the areas of construction, real estate, General Litigation and litigation. Over the past twenty years, Mr. Calegari’s combined experience in the legal, real estate and construction fields has resulted in more than $400M in real estate development, 30+ major construction projects, and over 300 real estate transactions throughout Southern California.
Since the formation of Calegari Law in 2008, clients have benefited from the highest level of legal advice which emanates from extensive hands-on experience in construction, business and real estate. His involvement in real estate and construction surpasses most other attorneys in that he has not only represented clients in real estate and construction, but founded and ran his own general contracting business, building it from the ground up. In this sense, he knows as much as his clients about their business.
Prior to founding Calegari Law Corporation, Mr. Calegari was General Legal Counsel and partner with Champion Development Group from 2003 – 2008. Champion Development was one of the region’s most prestigious, award-winning commercial development companies in Southern California. Mr. Calegari served additional roles for Champion including San Diego Division President, Senior Vice President, and Director of Operations.
Among the highly-acclaimed projects he represented for Champion were the Burbank Collection, featuring 100,000 square feet of retail and restaurants; 118 residential condominiums and a 700 public stall parking garage; and Pasadena Collection, which featured 150,000 square feet of retail, restaurants, office condominiums and 111 residential condominiums. Burbank Collection and Pasadena Collection were winners of Builder’s Magazine’s “Gold Nugget Award” Prior to serving as General Legal Counsel for the award-winning Champion Development Group, Mr. Calegari was a practicing attorney representing clients in real estate law, construction law, insurance and litigation.
Before earning his law degree, Mr. Calegari co-founded Robinson Pacific Builders (RPB) in 1992 and served as its President. RPB was a successful general contracting firm in both the public and private sector with Robinson Pacific Incorporated, its real estate development arm. RPB’s high caliber clients included many prestigious companies, such as Fleming Restaurants, San Diego Housing Commission, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, and the San Diego Zoological Society. RPB’s success strategy incorporated partial ownership with each project they built for third parties leading to high quality, cost effective projects.
Mr. Calegari began his career in real estate development and construction in 1988 at Guttman Construction of San Diego. Guttman completed over $150 million of development and construction projects throughout San Diego County including the eight-story parking/retail Parking Palace in Downtown San Diego, the 170-unit Oakwood Suites Hotel in Mission Valley, and 65 student housing units at Point Loma Nazarene College. Guttman was one of the Top 10 real estate developers in San Diego County in 1989.
Mr. Calegari has been a featured speaker at conferences sponsored by RealShare; USC Gould School of Law; Los Angeles County Bar Association; BIA; CRA; CPN & Multi-Housing News & Architecture; and IMN. He has been a guest instructor to ICSC students about mixed use real estate development and San Diego State students on the subject of Construction Management.
Mr. Calegari earned his Juris Doctorate from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego where he graduated Suma Cum Laude. He received numerous honors and awards including the American Jurisprudence Bancroft Whitney Awards in Real Property; Evidence; Civil Procedure; Legal Writing; Constitutional Law; Wills; and the Corpus Juris Secundum Awards for Real Property and Civil Procedure. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of San Diego and a certificate in Building Construction Technology from Mesa College, San Diego.
Mr. Calegari is licensed to practice law in the State of California.
